Single-Visit CEREC Restorations

CEREC Technology | Single-Visit Smile Restorations

CEREC restorations allow crowns, inlays, and onlays to be designed and fabricated in a single visit. This technology uses computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to create custom ceramic restorations on the same day. While it can be convenient in certain cases, it is not the best solution for every situation.

CEREC Restorations in a Single Visit

What Are CEREC Restorations?

CEREC is a system that enables dentists to design and mill ceramic dental restorations directly in the clinic, without sending them to an external laboratory. The process begins with a digital scan of the prepared tooth using an intraoral camera. The restoration is then designed on a computer and milled from a ceramic block by a machine in the same office, usually within a few minutes.

Advantages of Same-Day Restorations

One of the main benefits of CEREC technology is the ability to complete the restoration in a single appointment. This can be especially useful for patients traveling from abroad who want to minimize the number of visits. Additionally, because no temporary restoration is needed, patients avoid a second appointment to place the final restoration.

When Are CEREC Restorations Recommended?

CEREC restorations can be a good option for moderate-sized restorations such as crowns on posterior teeth, inlays, and onlays. They may also be suitable for patients who prefer to complete their dental treatment in one visit rather than returning for a second appointment.

Limitations of CEREC Restorations

It is important to understand that CEREC restorations are not ideal for every case. Larger restorations, bridges, or highly aesthetic work on front teeth often achieve better results when fabricated in a dental laboratory. Furthermore, the quality of CEREC restorations depends heavily on the experience and skill of the clinician using the system.

The CEREC Process

The typical process involves preparing the tooth, taking a digital impression with an intraoral scanner, designing the restoration on the computer, milling the ceramic piece in-office, and finally placing and adjusting the restoration during the same visit.

Aftercare Following CEREC Restorations

After receiving a CEREC restoration, patients are advised to maintain good oral hygiene and avoid biting on very hard foods for the first few days. Regular dental check-ups help ensure the restoration remains in good condition over time.

At Smiles Peru, we evaluate each case individually to determine whether a CEREC restoration is the most suitable option or if a laboratory-fabricated restoration would provide a better long-term result. If you are considering this type of treatment, we can explain the available alternatives based on your specific needs.
