Smile Design

Although the teeth have the greatest influence on the appearance of the smile, they are not the only factor that makes a beautiful smile. The shape and form of the lips, as well as healthy gums that do not show too much, all contribute to the smile that is perfect for you.

Regardless of whether you want a Hollywood smile or a more natural appearance, symmetry is essential. At Smiles Peru we create personalized, natural results using digital planning and proven aesthetic principles.

What Does a Smile Design Include?

A proper smile design may involve one or more of the following treatments, depending on your individual needs:

  • Porcelain veneers or crowns to improve shape, color, and size
  • Teeth whitening to brighten the overall shade
  • Gum contouring (gingivoplasty) to improve the proportion between teeth and gums
  • Orthodontics (traditional braces or Invisalign) when alignment needs to be corrected first
  • Dental implants when teeth are missing
  • Composite restorations or crowns for damaged or fractured teeth

The Smile Design Process at Smiles Peru

We plan and execute smile design in a predictable sequence:

  1. Initial Evaluation
Facial and smile analysis, occlusion assessment, photographs, videos, and digital scans.
  2. Digital Planning
We use digital smile design software to simulate the final result so you can see the proposed changes before any treatment begins.
  3. Treatment Execution
Once the design is approved, we carry out the necessary procedures (veneers, crowns, whitening, gum contouring, etc.).
  4. Final Adjustments
We review function, aesthetics, and comfort before completing the case.

This digital approach allows us to show you a realistic preview and make refinements while everything is still reversible.

Who Is a Candidate for Smile Design?

The best results begin when the patient has a clear idea of what they would like to change. We recommend asking yourself:

  • Am I embarrassed to smile?
  • Is this affecting my confidence?
  • What do I not like about my smile?
  • What would I like to change?

Smile design is ideal for people who:

  • Are unhappy with the color, shape, or size of their teeth
  • Have fractured, worn, or spaced teeth
  • Show too much gum when smiling (gummy smile)
  • Want a significant but natural improvement
  • Wish to correct several aesthetic concerns in one coordinated plan

Smiles Peru helps patients achieve results that fit both their personality and their budget.

How we Design a Balanced Smile

We follow international smile-design principles in four parts:

Facial aesthetics
We study facial proportions, lip shape, and how the smile behaves when you speak, smile, and rest. Facial type guides the ideal shape and size of the teeth.

Gingival aesthetics
Gum health and appearance matter. Ideally only a small, even band of gum shows (about 2 mm). If needed, we contour the gum line.

Microaesthetics
These are the subtle qualities of each tooth: how it reflects light, its translucency, and its color variations. Restorations should blend in so they are hard to tell from natural teeth.

Macroaesthetics
This looks at the proportions and relationships among the teeth, the soft tissues, and the face, so the result stays balanced and natural.

We use smile-design software with our laboratory technicians to build restorations that respect each patient’s features.

¿What makes a great smile?

A harmonious smile usually has these traits:

  1. Well-aligned teeth
  2. The midline between the front teeth lined up with the facial midline
  3. Tooth shape and size that suit the face
  4. A smile line that follows the curve of the lower lip

Other important factors are lip shape, an even gum line, and healthy gums that do not show too much.

Whether you want a Hollywood smile or a more natural look, symmetry is essential.

Frequently Asked Questions about Smile Design

Does smile design hurt?
Most procedures are performed with local anesthesia, so patients usually feel little to no discomfort during treatment. Mild sensitivity may occur for a few days after veneers or crowns are placed, but it is typically temporary.

How long does a smile design take?
A simpler case (veneers and whitening, for example) can often be completed in 2 to 4 weeks. Cases that also involve orthodontics or implants may take several months.

Can I see how my new smile will look before starting?
Yes. We use digital planning and mock-ups so you can preview the result before any irreversible steps are taken.

Is smile design permanent?
Results are long-lasting, especially with high-quality porcelain. Veneers and crowns typically last 10–15 years or more with proper care and regular maintenance.

Is smile design only for celebrities?
No. Smile design is for anyone who wants a personalized, natural improvement in the appearance of their smile.

How much does smile design cost?
Cost varies according to the number of teeth involved and the combination of treatments required. You can also review current pricing on our price list.
